Sir William Stephenson was honoured at the CSIS National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood on July 16, 2026, with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and the naming of the cemetery’s central square as Sir William Stephenson Square. Known by the wartime codename “Intrepid,” the Winnipeg-born intelligence pioneer played a critical role in coordinating Allied intelligence operations during the Second World War, helping establish networks and partnerships that laid the foundation for today’s Five Eyes intelligence alliance. The ceremony recognized his contributions to Allied victory, intelligence cooperation, and the protection of Western democracies, ensuring his remarkable legacy will be remembered for generations.
