A newly published official history of MI6, the British spy agency popularized by the James Bond books and movies, has highlighted the key role played by Canadian-born intelligence operative William Stephenson in combating anti-British sentiment in the United States in the early 1940s and in setting the stage for direct U.S. participation in the Second World War.
