Description

One of the most original and visually memorable paintings depicting a scene from World War II, this powerful portrayal of two F4U Corsairs is simply the work of a genius as a gaggle of F4U Corsairs begin a low-level straffing run during the Allied landings in the Marshall Islands in 1944. Below an AM6 Zero lies decaying on the beach, victim of an earlier aerial contest.
These important prints were signed by five equally important US Marine Corps F4U Aces. In fact, these top-scoring pilots were probably some of the most revered fighter pilots from any air corps or air force from any theatre of World War II. They included two Medal of Honor recipients – Ken Walsh with 21 victories and James Swett with 15.5 victories – along with three other great exponents of the F4U – Harold Segal with 12 victories, Phil DeLong with 13 victories and Roger Hedrick with 12 victories. Wow! What an amazing collection of names, two MOH winners, 73.5 victories and one of the most iconic F4U paintings ever completed.
